Alessandro Mendini (1931-2019) was an Italian designer, architect, artist, theorist, editor and essayist, who played an important role in the Italian design. After graduating from University of Milan with a degree in architecture, Alessandro Mendini worked as a designer at Nizzoli Studio. He also worked for Casabella, Modo and Domus as journalist, contributing to development of design with its innovative ideas. In 1979 he joined the Alchimia Studio, a group of radical designers who, outside of the principles of industrial production and functionalism, have designed objects for sheer artistic pleasure.
In 1989, together with his younger brother Francesco Mendini, he established his own studio in Milan-Atelier Mendini and continued his career as a great designer until he died at the age of 88 years old. Mendini’s heritage continue to influence the world of design.
